Not alot of happy fishos in Perth at the moment.
This is intended to reduce the catch of Dhu fish Groper and Snapper, all of wich are under pressure in the Perth area.
The hope to reduce the catch by 50%.
They have banned fishing for these fish 15 oct to 15 dec each year.
The fees are for each person on the boat not the boat as I read them.
    Now for the STUPID part.
This new law covers Kalbarri in the north to Augusta in the south.Areas out side this zone are exempt.
So the pressure on the south coast will surely rise during holidays/long weekends etc.
Many fishos on talkback radio today made the point that instead of catching 1 or 2 Dhuies on an outing then moving on to catch other fish will now fish to their bag/boat limits. This could lead to more fish being taken rather than the intended goal.
There are predictions of boats being sold as the costs for a family of 4 to take the boat out have now skyrocketed.
Surely there are better ways of protecting the fish rather than making it a money issue.

“From mid-October, people fishing from a boat anywhere in the State (including those fishing from charter boats) will need a $30 licence..."

What an absoloute crock of excrement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

So if I am to take 4 people out in my tinny, each of them has to have a fishing license????, and then if I take someone else I have to say.."oh im sorry, but your not allowed to put a line in the water because you dont have a license"

And who is going to enforce this...a few fisheries officers???!!!!!!!, geez with all the police we have we cant keep track of real offenders.

I'll accept licenses for marron, abalone, crayfish, impoundments etc ....but needing a license for taking the kids out in a tinny and catching a few herring and squid?????!!!!!!

Anyone want to swap a tinny for a 4 door???...this wil be a hot topic for a while I bet!

the way i see it is they have to catch you pulling a fish out of the ocean on a line with a hook on it , anyone who has been out in a tinnie how hard would it be to see a boat coming towards you and you just slip the line to someone who has a license, when you come in provideing you have the right amount of fish per license you would be safe

Not as easy as that Richard.
I have been stopped by the Fisheries Officers whilst crayfishing.
We never saw them.Everything was above board, they new exactly how many we had, just wanted to check they were size,we had licences and they were our pots we pulled.
We suspect they had a land based spotter sending info to the boat as it travelled quite some distance before chasing us down.

you think the recreational fishing laws are bad. Should try comercial fishing and try and keep your family business afloat. The cray boats lost 48% of there pots this year and two/three days fishing. On top of that you can not catch a fish to feed your family. You can not have a hook on your boat otherwise you face HUGE fines and black marks on your license. A feed of fish for the family takes a bit of pressure off the shopping bill and my dad fed us plenty.

I for one totally argree, stuffem I aint gunna buy an extra license. I'm all for 'fishing for future' and only 'take what you eat' but this amoung many other changes our state and federal governments have made in the past couple of months is too much. It stops here............

We are OK down here in Esperance for the time being anyway. But the concept is just wrong.
Another passtime being passed to the elite. Why is it everyone seems to assume that people that deep sea fish are mega rich and all own $150k boats. We deep sea fish in a small centre console 4.8m worth maybe $15k max and there are plenty similar. Then there are the guys that spend $50-$100k on boats and struggle to fuel and maintain them, this will kill them. Oh well at least the loaded drillers etc from the Goldfields will be able to afford to come down and plunder the seas in their 11m Sharkcats and take a freezer full of fish home to throw half down the tip in 3 months time.
We live on the coast and only take what we can eat for a few weeks max, not everything caught.
Another case of people who do the right thing being penalised again.
