    Landy Andys vegie patch.

Some pics from my plot.Things are growing well, despite 40degC days.
    Corn.

    Spaghetti squash.

    Buternut Pumpkin.

    Tomatoes.

    Capsicum/chilli and another tomatoe.

    Lettuce and cucumbers.

    Strawberries.

    Beetroot.

The Asparagus patch. The shoots get pretty tough very quickly once it gets hot.The trick now is to water and feed the crowns up during summer. The ferns die off in winter and shoot again in spring.During the season we get 2 to 3 handfuls of spears per day

Zuchini. One can never have enough of the stuff,we are eating plenty of baby size zucchinis sauted in butter with garlic at the moment,MMMMMMMMM.

Spuds. These very active tub are a heirloom variety. They are quite small, shaped more like a sweet potatoe, dark purple and quite nutty in flavour. The bed self generates every year after the frosts have finished.

Something quirky.Hops, these are cascade.I bought the rizomes 3 years ago, they haven't done much at all. This year is the best yet, this is the better of the 2 lots.I grew them to throw in my homebrew.Could have spare flowers/cones for WA folk this year.

Last of all,my olives have finished flowering.Looks like they have set lots of fruit, should be a bumper harvest come easter time.

They all look very healthy Andrew, a credit to you. How do you get time to look after them. I love my vegie garden also but due to lack of time I haven't done anything in it for 2 years now.

The raised beds to start with,I have a stuffed back, and cant bend over much to pull the weeds.Makes the growing of vegies so much easier for me.Quite often in the mornings I will start the work ute and weed one bed to give the chooks some fresh greens before I head off.
Retic is the other answer.run it in the middle of the nite, the plants have the moisture in the beds ready on a hot day.I cant match it hand watering in summer.
Mulching.I get mountains of straw delivered by the gardeners on the crew, they have to tidy up after sheep shows at the pavilion,I use as much as they can give me.My beds are full of composting worms that eat the straw as fast as I can pile it on,cuts evaporation too.
Finally, its a passion of mine,I would rather spend time talking to my vegies than the tossers at the pub.It is an escape from reality I guess,my own created world.

Even tho your using raised beds, this year was a good season... We have lots of subsoil moisture and the paddock is still green down here, with knee high clover to boot...

Did you find your regrowth started early in the middle of winter? I did, and my horses fattened up early, even tb mare had weight on(maybe next year she'll go to horse heaven, but she has a reprieve this year(30 yo))

    Very nice Andrew

You'll have to set up a small parking lot stall, behind the Woolshed, to sell surplus

    Cheers

They did.Now have billions of them,a new worm farm, plus they are everywhere in the garden. They breed up very quickly if they get the right conditions.
I also bought a commercial mulcher,I use it to turn all our waste cardboard and paper products into pulp. The worms love the stuff.

I don't have much surplus Steve.
We give a fair amount away and anything that gets too big or goes to seed gets converted into bum nuts.

Some more pics, now some crops are finished and others have come along.

    Corn.
The first bed got ripped up and put thru the mulcher on Saturday,we got heaps of perfect really sweet cobbs. The next bed is now almost ready.

These corn seedlings were planted 1 week ago, they have nearly tripled in size already!!!!

    Tomatoes.
The "tall poppies" from Carnarvon still are producing,we have had heaps of heavy, firm sweet tomatoes of them.

My Romas haven't performed, only just starting to ripen, very late for Romas. Many others in town are saying their tomatoes didn't produce this year too.

Zuchinnis are still going strong, best Ive grown, they normally would have been effected by damping off diseases by now.

Butternuts and Spaghetti squash are almost ready to harvest. We have had a couple of the squash, really tasty sauted with onions.

    Chillis and Capsicum are ready.

Asparagus.I treated the bed to a good mulch and feed of moo poo.

Lettuce and Brocolli. These seedlings are a week old also, like the corn they have tripled in size already!!!!

Olives. Its going to be a great season,I have 14 trees, and they are loaded.

Finaly,my Hops. They look ready to pic, dont really know what to do with them, the plants are loaded.
