Thread: Damn, I was not thinking quick enough

Hello All,

At close of business today - Friday. All the top of the pile has been spread out. Now there is only a pad which is the remaining base of the truck and dog pile of topsoil. I have about two more shovel-depths to dig down in the pad and it will be fully transformed into a new garden bed. After that it will need raking over to level everything out.

After the levelling I will go to the local council dump and buy a trailer load of their mulch and spread it over the top. With that done it will be time to put some plants in.

Maybe you should have hired a little dingo digger to take all the back breaking work out of it.

I recently had to move 10 cubic meters of mulch after I had a few trees removed. Fortunately for me there was no urgent need so I did it over a couple of months one barrow load at a time to various parts of the garden.

Hello Travelrover,

I used shifting the topsoil as a reward after doing sessions of rather dull and taxing work on the computer. When the brain becomes too numb I go out and do something physical. At least five wheelbarrows of topsoil shifted. Do some more work on the computer ... repeat.

Next week - when or if the retailers contact me to let me know that the ordered stock has arrived, I will be making some insect screens for some awning style windows. Then after that I will have built up sufficient brownie points with SWMBO so the "reward" will be working on Snowy the Defender.110.

By the way - Snowy is parked in the vehicle "work" area.. The spot closest to the power points in the old shed. The blue International van is waiting for its allocated space as Number 2 in the queue.

The blue van's need to be near a power point is due to the rust repairs it needs. A couple of new chassis to cabin mounts, a couple of brackets where the front mudguards join onto the A pillar. A lower and upper plenum rebuilt. Sections of windscreen channel and rebuilding sections of the footwells. Oh not to mention some replacement of sections of the A pillars too. Some patches in the floor panel - near the cab mounts.

A couple of sheets of metal from the steel sales place; some bending and folding; some bead rolling; a bit of cutting and butting; some welding and it will be like a new truck. Then I can start on getting all the surface cracks out of the fibreglass and patch the roof rack holes.

Without forgetting the mechanical side of things; fit in the International/Perkins cross member, drop in the Perkins 6354 diesel motor and the International gearbox in.

The van will be mint! I will be a much more skilled person when the blue van powers itself away from the power point area once all the work is done on it

Hmmm a 12 metre long shipping container. A new garden bed that requires levelling off. A bit much to do with a rake.

How could I bring a Land Rover into the story - since it is a Land Rover forum?
