County's are expensive. I reckon (correct me if im wrong)it's probably cheaper to buy a defender then go to a scrappy and look for a smashed Isuzu with a 4bd1 and buy it. Lot of work and yes I know it won't be a true county but isn't that pretty much all we desire? The engine?

I guess the gearbox would be different though? Probably a real PITA but if your handy with the spanners and complimented with time....??

Depends on how far gone the County is. I went the 'get a 110 and upgrade everything else' path.. If you picked up a pristine tdi with dud engine for cheap it may work out better otherwise it would be pretty similar.

'cept that it isn't just the engine even if that is the most critical attraction, 80s era Landies have thicker/stronger body panels than their later siblings, the rear cross member is made from thicker material, there is galvanising in various places, the earlier One Tens have proper door handles that confuse strangers to the brand, the headlining is a type that doesn't sag, the ribs are on the outside of the roof and the roof can easily be stood on without risk of denting. There is more knee room in the back seats (because the back seat is narrower..) and many were sold as 9 seaters. Oh yeah, big CVs, oil lubed hubs standard, no failing fuel pump inside the tank, self-unadjusting drum brake rear ripe for conversion...

and a proper County has glorious poo-brown carpet!

There's always the ex-army auctions, from ~$6000 upwards for one with a blue slip, or ~$2000 upwards for a wreck.

I'm surprised nobody has purchased this one yet, it's been for sale for about a month now

I think I'd be divorced if I collected it
