This thread should help.......... County V8 to 4BD1turbo conversion
Using the truck gearbox is also an option.......... Isuzu MSA Gearbox to LT230

For that sort of dollars, I would want the engine proven to be in top condition. I paid $4500 for a whole truck (damaged) and the engine was 3,000 kms old from a $6,000+ rebuild (with receipts)
A mate recently bought a 4BD1 engine, apparently in good condition, only to find cracked pistons, scored main bearings etc when it was checked out. Fortunately it was a cheap purchase, but you just can't tell from the outside.
Getting one out of a Landy is the least hassle as far as a conversion goes, but finding one is not easy.

ha mate the isuzu conversion is a great one, I don't have the same photos uploaded to my profile but am happy to send an email to you ( it takes to long to up load all of them here), so if you want post your email address or pm me and will send mine through. I would highly recomend turboing it while it is sitting on the floor, I dont miss the 8 at all the torque differeance is amazing. you will have to cut the old mounts off and fab up some new ones.
I bought a doner vehicle for my swap, I paid $1200 for the whole vehicle, I rebuilt the gearbox and upgraded to tapered roller bearings as per military spec at a cost off $2000 but I was very lucky ( sorry you won't get it that cheap). I used a turbo glide kit, it takes a bit of fab work as well but has worked out well. If I had the time or another vehicle to use I would go for the NPR gearbox and LT230 transfer set up.
