    Oil sensor thread in 4BD1-t engine

    Hello,

    Does anybody know the type of thread used in the 4BD1T engine of the oil sensor?. I would like to replace the old (tube)system by a new electrical system.
    Engine placed is a 110 Defender.

    Also:

    What should the oilpressure be normally?
    And the oil temperature?

    Hi Erik and welcome,
    I am not sure of the diameter and thread of the oil sender unit - from memory I think it about 8mm metric fine, but dont quote me on that. The easiest way to find out would be to remove it and take it to the instrument shop (maybe they will know). Oil pressure should be around 14 psi (1.0 kg/cm2) idle and 56 to 85 psi (4.0 to 6.0 kg/cm2) at running speed. Oil temperature will get up to around 100 - 115c at highway speed. VDO make good quality instruments which will probably be readily available in your country. Any pics of your 110?

    Thanks for the info!

    I was just looking around on the internet late last night and spotted some VDO instruments. I thought to order them right away however the sensor size was unknown to me.
    I will first take out the sensor and measure it.
    Just thought to be quick!

    The defender I own over here in The Netherlands was original deliverd to the Australian Army (1984 perenti project).
    I bought it two years ago. Since then the car was completely taken apart.I have however just started to rebuilt it. Because we have the steering on the left side over here I modified it (left side steering) and PAS first.
    Since these two years I have collected all new parts such as doors, seats, new TD5 dashboard, bumpers, etc, etc. Now replacing the complete electrical system and install an additional battery.
    My goal is not to restaurate as it was original but try to get the car on the road again and more important ready for expedition.
    As we are not so lucky over here in The Netherlands to have mountains, desserts, etc I would like to go Spain first (3000km vv) and test the car.
    Then next year (hopefully) driving to Marocco (North Africa) for a few weeks driving in the Atlas mountains.
    I will send some pics when the car can be more or less identified as a Defender 110.

    Hi Erik,
    Some photos would be great. How on earth did you manage to acquire an australian army perentie 110. They are as scarce as frogs feathers to find even here in aus. Was it intact or accident damaged?. They are one of the most capable offroad vehicles around and extremely robust with the Isuzu 4BD1 motor and modified 4 speed LT95 transmission. The modification was the addition of a tapered roller bearing intermediate shaft in the integral transfer case which made it much more durable. With the addition of a turbo they are a versatile tourer comparable to a V8 on road and the longevity of the engine is legendary - up to 1,000,000K. Would you be able to advise the chassis number and the ARN (army registration number) if you know what it was. Also the engine number if it is the original engine. We have a registry (REMLR- register of ex military landrovers) here and any info that would identify the vehicle would be appreciated. I have parts manuals for this vehicle and you can contact me via PM if you need to know any part numbers and help with getting parts as some of them are australian manufacture and not used on any other landys.     I guess, if this car it that scarce as you are telling me, my story of modernising this car will not enjoy you,right? Sorry for that.
    The car was intact however it has been modified in the UK already some years ago.
    I bought it from a Dutch guy who used it for overland expedition in Afrika. He imported it from the UK in 2007.
    As he bought a 130 now he took out the original engine and replaced it with an Isuzu as well. He did like this engine!

    I can try to find some serial numbers on the chassis and engine!

    Hi, it would possibly be 1/8" BSPP (Brittish Standard Pipe Parallel) or BSPT (Brittish Standard Pipe Tapered) which are the usual for that type of thing. I am away from hope and don't have my charts with me but I think from memory its 11 threads per inch and the outside diameter will be about 3/8" or approx 9.5-10mm.
