You could also get a bellhousing to suit the current gearbox easier than a 4BD1 which would need a stronger gearbox anyway.
But the Isuzu is that extra bit of gravy
KLR at Kingswood - yes the people who fumigate diesels with LPG, are recommending the R380 as the gearbox of choice for a 4BD1 conversion these days.

They use an LT85 Isuzu bellhousing and graft it onto the R380 box. The problem will be getting an LT85/Isuzu bellhousing in Barbados. The rest of the conversions are dealt with in other threads.

Personally I'd still be going with the Isuzu 5sp-LT230 conversion. Some one should make these as a commercial product.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

My main concern was if i can mate the v8 manual transmission with the 300tdi. I considered the the Isuzu because i could probably grab one cheaper than than the 300tdi.

Repairs are another issue. Which engine is easier to work on and easier to fix. Power is not too much of an issue. If i need any extra grunt from the 300tdi i can tweak it a bit.
If I were you I would buy an adaptor from M&D engineering in the UK and fit a 4JB1(T). 2.8L - like a small 4BD1. Common, reliable, and easy to repair.

The 4JA1 (2.5) and 4JG2 (3.1) have the same bolt pattern. They were fitted to Isuzu pickups and wagons - as well as lots of industrial applications.

I am pretty sure that the V8 R380 and the Tdi R380 differ in the bellhousing and probably the input gear. Therefore it looks like you will be up for some changes in the GBox department which ever way you go. M&D are the conversion specialist in LRs and diesels as isuzurover said they probably have a range of adaptors for a couple of engines including Isuzu, Mazda etc

The Brazilians make some diesels which could be suitable and they put them into the Ford Rangers in places like South America maybe another option however you may also require adaptors or a different Gbox.

Hmmm Isuzu 5 spd to LT230, now that would take a lot of time, energy and effort..... oh hang on someone has done it and has a website.............
