    suspension ideas!

Hey just having some probs with my suspension under the 1985 110 county.

About a year ago I put a set of Bilstein shocks, and lovells springs under the old girl. Very happy with the quality of the gear. The guys a lovells set me up with the HEAVY duty springs in the front to accommodate the big donk, and my bull bar.

The problem Im having is that the front rides very stiff and actually sits quiet high, especially with tools or camp gear in the back.
I need some advice on whether to change the back to a heavier spring or soften the front??

Keep in mind that in april I will be carrying cabinets/draws, bed, extra water, fuel, fridge car topper boat and all the other things required for a years trip round aus.

I was thinking maybe I go heavy duty while she's loaded like a camel then swap back to soft after our trip when she's rarely loaded?? I don't really want two full sets of springs to that need changing though. What to do?

Has any one had experience with lovells?

    Hi Mate,

There are plenty of options around, depending upon your budget. Do you still have the load leveler in at the back?

Have a search around, there is plenty of info on shocks and springs. You may also want to have a look at the air springs.. (check the Good Oil for the threads).

    Cheers

There are a lot who may disagree, but I have had Lovells coils sag quite quickly, BUT was a few years ago now, so QC may be better now.

I would possibly take a look at LRA Orange coils, I have them in the front of my 110 Isuzu ATM, although the bar and winch isn't fitted yet, they look as if they will be fine and when they were in the RRC the rate was excellent and a good ride quality. They are 180psi and 17.2" free length, and the 130 spec fronts, NRC9448/9449's are 50mm lower free length but are 225psi.

OR, I would recommend just standard 110 Defender spec springs rear, (Red/Green OR Red/Red) and the NRC9448/9449 130 Defender spec fronts.

Yeah load leveler is still there, she's all legit, bar the new springs and shocks. the main issue is if I harden the back up I will put enough weight back there to make the springs work, I just don't know if I'll get enough weight over the front to soften it with heavy duty springs in it..

Another option for the front is OME766's (through ARB, but made by King's AFAIK) These were specifically made for the Isuzu 110 Land Rover. I can't recall the rates etc, but I have them on my County with a bullbar and winch. They're approximately a 50mm lift from standard.
