50K Km OR yearly whichever comes first.
I think I've read all the threads on LT95 oils, so not looking for an oil recommendation
I haven't seen mentioned anywhere about recommended oil change intervals when using manual transmission fluids such as Castrol VMX-80, Syntrans etc.
Hopefully with new gaskets/seals throughout the oil will stay inside the gearbox where it belongs, so am considering using the likes of Syntrans as a lazy "fill and forget" option, but if I'm still going to have to change it frequently its obviously not economic.
Can anyone point me to some relevant info, or have personal experience using these fluids in an Isuzu LT95?

Thanks Dave.
I'm curious about the yearly bit as I found some info last night about a 3 year change period in RoadRanger gearboxes, and the R380 is 40K/2yr, which to me indicates that the oil isn't going to degrade/oxidize etc in a year.
I understand that truck boxes are a different animal as they have much greater capacity, and pumps/coolers which is why they are talking up to 500K changes, but I can't see how that would affect a calendar based change interval.
Yearly just seems very traditional/mineral to me.
I'll probably only be doing 15-20K annually in the vehicle, so if a 50K/2yr or even 50K/3yr change was reasonable then it would suit me perfectly.
Steve
certainly it would be feasable and it is whats in the book for the box if you assume only routine use and no off roading. IF you do offroading, towing or operating in arduous conditions then the service intervals drop.
Since its got an lt95 in it its an older landrover and since its an older landrover its probabley going to get used for what it was designed for, off road driving, towing and operating in arduous conditions Ergo, shorter service intervals.
Also.
the lt95 runs on engine oil, the same grade as the engine it makes sense to me to change the box oil when you change the engine oil

this was allways the norm for my LT95's tho now with the isuzu il be doing gearbox oil every second change as i do the engin oil every 5k so the box will get a fresh lot every 10k then the transfer every 4th service as it runs 90 grade same as the diffs/swivels every 20k![]()
Series III Stage 1 with a bit of a difference
Read post 184
On my first oil change of my first Landrover (a SIII Stage 1 hybrid which originally had a 3.9D but now has a 3.5 V8 and I think a LT95) I put gear oil in the transfer case. After a while it was making terrible grinding noises.
As it turns out, I should have used engine oil. With gear oil the shims didn't get the oil flow they required and got too hot. As described to me, they were burnt.
It now has one of those kits in which the gears are on individual tapered roller bearings and I run nothing but engine oil in it.
