    Standard axle diameter

Has anyone had any problems with their standard 1.24" diameter Hi-Tough-HyTuf/McNamara-EN25/Rovertracks axles, a heavy right foot a strong Isuzu ?

I know a few of you are talking of going to 35 spline D60 size axles and lockers, but has anyone twisted any of the decent aftermarket axles so far ?

Don't know anyone with an isuzu that has done it, but Slunnie has twisted some MD axles in his D2.

    Cheers Ben.

If Slunnie can twist some axles in a heavily tweaked TD5 Disco, what would a reasonably boosted Isuzu be able to do

I think tyre size is a big issue. Slunnie was running 34's or 35's wasn't he???

If Rangierrover hasn't twisted an axle by now he never will

I was thinking as I posted the original Q that our boy in the hills would be a good beta tester and if it hasn't happened by now it probably wont

After busting so many rover rear ends in my old rangie with 33's and repairing a few county front ends ie my brother cal415 and dobbo i wasent going to chance it i have 35 dana and arb for the rear and rover tracks axle cv combo (new style) and arb front all sitting here waiting to go in .
As for the extra boost of power its also on the go with a T25 from a s14 nissan im just waiting to get my work area back once the pesky tojo is gone

Losts more to axles than the dia, MD in particular will bend quite a bit before they go bang. Hi Tuff seem pretty good too. Wasting the axles down to make them an active spring and also to relieve stress riser at the end of spline is critical too.

Thinner may not read 'stronger' but including all engineering principles involved thinner may read 'less likely to break'

Henry Royce thinned his first straight 6 cranshafts down to stop them breaking!! (then came harmonic balancers and counterweights....)

Dana 60 35spline def a good upgrade for the rear. I think unless your seriously heavy or seriously powerful with very large tyres. 1.25/.24 fronts would be adequate. Particularly unlocked. CVs will most likely be the weak point still.

I'm aware of the benefits of axle wasting below spline root diam, surface finish, etc. in terms of fatigue life.
I've had axles waisted, polished and gun drilled on other 'projects' a long time ago

Just asking if anyone's had any problems with their Sals 1.24" rears at all (so far)

From what Vern has said re Rovercare's rig, if you have Maxi rear axles and a strong Isuzu, worry about an upgrade after you twist one past the point of no return

The reason for the Q was from a position of if you are to obtain a new locker do you get a D60 31 or 35 spline one or just get a 24 spline one to suit existing maxi axles and save the $ ?
