could be buying 4bt1
g'day all, may be joining the isuzu owners. Going to look at a 4bt1 powered landy and having no experience with these motors, would like a heads up on what to look out for...cheers

Make sure it's not the one that was drowned in the mangroves up your way a couple of years ago.

I assume you mean 4BD1 and not 4BT which is a cummins motor?
Same as any engine though, just check all the fluids, check for unusual noises, smooth power delivery, etc...

Be mindful that the clutch will rattle when idling in neutral. Its normal. The gears are tall in the 4 speed, but fourth will do from around 60km/h to 110+km/h, and like a series you can't rush the box.
As for the engine, it shouldn't blow smoke (unless fuel pump tweaked?) on the flat but might blow a little on decent hills. Dragging off ricers at the lights will throw a little black smoke but clears up real fast.
