    4JB1 Questions

I have been given this engine. The Bloke that gave it to me said its near the same as a 4BD1 but a bit of Google tells me its a 2.8 litre direct injection industrial motor. The tag says 4JB1PA-06.
It is NA. Can it be turbo,d like a 4BD1 and are turbo,s and manifolds available.
It has a funny looking flywheel and housing.
I am wondering what I can use it for as its probably a bit small to swap out the 3.9 in my wifes Sherwood.
    Any Ideas?
    Didiman.

Yes they will handle a turbo. Check that it is a domestic (non import) engine - it will have timing gears if it is, and a rubber belt if an import.

I have posted a few threads on 4JB1s and 4JXX series engines.

The only real similarity with the 4B engines is they are made by isuzu and so very reliable.

They work well in a Rangie (with a turbo). Equivalent or better performance to a Tdi or 2.8TGV.

I'm fairly certain the 4jb1 is the motor that was found in Holden rodeo's and early jackaroos. There is a kit that you can buy from the uk that will bolt it up to discovery series 1 and rangerover V8 autos. I believe they did do a turbo version of it.

Yes it is - it was fitted to rodeos, jackaroos, small isuzu trucks, and a range of OS isuzus (some were imported here - I think the Isuzu MU is in this list...). The imports have a rubber belt instead of gears.

There are 2 companies in the UK who make adaptors and conversion kits. M&D is one of those:

Looks like an SAE industrial flywheel and bellhousing too.

Hi Dougal. Saw one of your posts saying they are inclined to get a leg out of bed.
They dont rev that high either and the manifolds look restrictive. Huge big injector pump setup. Would this model be worth putting a turbo on and playing with?
