    ZD30 VNT?

    Hi everyone,

I have anidea to try a ZD30 VNT turbo on the perentie. It has the .64 A/R stamped on the exhaust housing and .53 on the compressor side.

    Some numbers that are confusing;
    EC 0352J
    1441-VC100
    70594-15

    What do these mean???

    Thanks for any help guys!

Thanks Vern. I'm still getting my head around all the numbers on turbos and what they mean/what I need.

    Cheers

Electrical/ vac controlled though Would be a good unit if modded to pressure actuated control instead. If a ZD30 can destroy them (And the pistons etc) at constant 800+ degrees EGT's, should be safe at the 4BD1 's temps

    Hi Justinc,

Do you think this turbo would suit the 4bd1? What would the torque/power curve be with this size turbo?

It seems to have the right A/R's like .64 exhaust and .53 compressor. I would think it would be pretty close to what a 4bd1 would like?

I am just a bit unsure and need to do more research I think.

    Cheers

I think it'll be borderline too small. Great low end but will likely choke up top if you run more than 15psi or so.

The other issue is orientation, the exhaust inlet flange is vertical, I haven't checked if it can be clocked to fit on the later style 4BD1/4BD2 manifold but I know they don't work on my low mount.

Sorry Goanna for late reply, yes Dougal sums it up pretty much, probably average to borderline performance wise if searching for 15+psi and running a big I/C. hence I have never bothered to check orientation etc. Although I am using a standard wastegated (Disconnected though)TB25 (.48 compressor, .67exhaust hsg )and pretty happy with performance and fuel consumption, lack of lag etc.

I've been using my DIY T2560 lately (T28 compressor, T25 turbine with 0.64 A/R housing) and to be honest I don't like it.

Sure it's got more top end than the little T25 I was running had, but I don't use over 2,500rpm in normal driving and under 2,500rpm it's a bit boring.

I'll fix the exhaust leak and run it for a couple more tanks to see how fuel economy goes. Then I'll try a little harder at fitting the GT2256V that's been sitting in my parts bin for 4 years or so.

Right now I miss the low end punch of the little T25. Sure it was all over by 2,800rpm with the 0.49 A/R exhaust housing, but from 1000 to 2,500rpm it was great. I should try it with the 0.64 exhaust housing at some stage.

Dougal that GT2256v what max psi will it produce? And what's its most efficient psi you will run it at (to have max flow and psi) ? Did you get that of a 2.7 merc ? wreckers over here want new prices for turbo's
