Better than a pod, but too small for a 3.9(T)di.
However a larger equivalent would be good.
The newer dolaldson housings use radial sealing for the elements, which is much better. The housings are also polumer, so no rust.

Just pick one the same size as the OEM isuzu county version (or larger if there is room). The original should be about 10" ??? (so 262 mm is the closest)
Is there a point where an air filter like the one above is too big for a motor and would become detrimental? (within reason)

Yes, certainly. Filters are not sieves, they capture particles based on a series of mechanical mechanisms, including brownian motion and inertia (momentum).Quote:

So in short - bigger is not better. However there are always tradeoffs. The best thing to do is to go for a filter about the same size as OEM, or slightly larger if you can squeeze it in (especially if you have a T or tweaked engine, which will breathe more).
I'm running a modified Fleetguard housing in mine. Dont recall the P/N offhand, but its very similar size to the LR 6x6 one, with main and safety filter.
New price was about $240 including the filters.
Only other bit I had to get for it was one of the restriction indicator gauge things that screws onto the outlet housing.
There is likely one that you don't have to modify - I just stuffed up when I got mine ;)

Any photos or part numbers for the Fleetguard one Steve. I have to go down the aircleaner path again when I convert my '85 County V8 and this one looks a bit cheaper than the Donaldson.
The fellow i bought my vehicle from disposed of the original donaldson because it's position made it to difficult for him to work on. It went to the tip years ago...damn shame.:(

Fleetguard P/N is AH19066 for the one I used.
I had to remove and blank the original air inlet and I'm now using what was originally the dust ejector tube (which is 3" diam) as an air inlet.
Also had to swap the plastic swirl vanes to the other end of the primary filter.
The slightly smaller inlet diameter compared to the original one might de-rate it a bit, but I've given it a thrashing and haven't had the restriction indicator pop so I don't think its a biggie.
The AH19267 is more like the style of the 6x6 one, with a dinner plate style end cap on it (compared to the 200tdi style pot-like end on mine). May be a better option, but would still need the inlet relocation.
Either type is still going to need the housing released from the mounting clamps to change the filter.
As far as I could work out from cross-referencing Donaldson filter numbers and sizes, both of these Fleetguard housings have roughly the same dimension elements as the LR6x6 housing.
Fleetguard also have the mounting clamps/brackets for the housing. Very cheap IIRC so wasn't worthwhile me making them.
Its not a straight drop-in fit, but I'm pretty happy with how its turned out.
For me it was worth the ~$200 saving on the genuine LR item, but others may see it differently.

3 inch inlet/outlet, should fit in originals place, though i might mount on roof rack anyway, dual element.
We put the biggest Donaldson we could fit and still close the bonnet on the Rangie's left guard and a Donaldson pre-cleaner on top of the snork, so far so good.
