    gaining oil?

    Hey all

lately it seems the county has started gaining oil in between services, the only thing we can put it down to is diesel leaking into the crankcase somehow
the injectors have just been tested, they are working 100% so the only other possibility is the injector pump. has anyone else had similar problems? can this be fixed easily or would our best bet be to get the pump serviced, aparently they can leak from the lift pump into the crankcase as well?.

    Thanks in advance, cheers Tim

Leaking from the lift pump into crankcase is more common with 300Tdi. It could happen with a 4BD1 via the IP - the IP is lubricated by engine oil (line from filter housing) and drains into timing cover. The lift pump bolts to side of IP and is operated by the same camshaft that operates the pump plungers.

If much diesel is bypassing the IP plungers, I would expect the performance to be poor and rough running at idle.

what john said ... it would be unlikely that it would be the injection pump leaking back beacuse the main way straight back to the engine is via the tiny oil line that supplys the IP with oil and if that is happening you would most likely have no engine oil pressure if the diesel can somehow return along this line when you say gaining oil how much exactally are you talking about? and probably best way to know is to pour the next oil into a clear/clean drum and do an inspection to see if there is layers (indicating other fluids)

over 750km it has gained about an inch on the dipstick, we will try drainling some oil into a container and see how that looks..

Hey Tim, I agree the lift pump is the most likely suspect. Have to send one over to the west for my uncle who has the same symptoms with his ATM.
