Gday, bit late but Id be interested in all info available on this conversion, Im happy to go all Izuzu as well (bellhousing etc) and like the LT230 enough to prefer it over LT95 setup.
If you could send me some links phone numbers?

I've been doing the same...R380 or the Msa swap....install a turbo or not....mod, mod, mod....just got back from a 600km round trip down to the goldfields....the perentie is just beautiful the way it is!! It's built for cruising on the highway at 100clicks, will do it all day...IMHO I'm just going to leave it the way it is. Loved climbing up the hills and through the gullies.
what about an overdrive? will that work?
seems to be a lot of information going no where.
you have a rangie, possibly you have the original gearbox and probably a lower final drive ( transfer gears) this could be the reason you are looking for 5th gear. in reality the only issue with the LT95 is the gap between 3rd and 4th.
you posted something about long shift. if you have the earlier long shift pattern then you in all probability have the early RR LT95 and lower ratio transfer gears anlong with the small dia drum..
if i was you, i would swap these out first and then see how you feel.
if a LT85 bell housing drops in your lap, then grab it, that gives you the LT 85 and R380 options. the latter being slightly better than the first. gear boxes as with transfer cases the latter boxes are the better suffix. there are more on here that know about that than i do.
if not, i would go down the MSA route. but with grabbing the flywheel housing and flywheel from the isuzu truck. making room by notching the chassis for the starter. and picking up a 12V starter.
that just leaves the transfer case, so grab that kit off grub for that.
the off the shelf Isuzu clutch as opposed to an up rated land rover unit is a saving, as is a second-hand MSA compared to a rebuilt LR box.
but the guts of the choice is what bell housing you have. then its just $$$ after that
After 3 years you have probably sorted this problem out, however for others in the same boat: If you do have the early V8 Rangie box, you should perhaps get a drive in one of the ex-Army Perenties to compare.
They use the 1:1 ratio (0.97:1) transfer and have the same diff ratio as your Rangie. They also have tapered roller bearings in the transfer so are more reliable.
LT85 boxes suffer weakness in 5th gear and are expensive to overhaul.
