The BG in this case would refer to the engine group "BG", I know my 6BB1 has a BB-5? which is direct in 5th.

There are a number of Isuzu O/D 5 speed but AFAIK they also lack the good crawler 1st which is great for an off-road truck like the F1 and Mk3/Mk4 Inters and the reason that a 6 speed O/D or 7 speed (double) O/D box would ideal for the project.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Not sure where you get that idea from?

Have a look at this list of engine and box combos:
    New Zealand
There is no correlation between engine designation and box designation.

You're probably right, I made it up!
    • Ref: Model Eng G/box
    • F501 83 JCR500 6BD1 ALI BD5C
    • E448 FTR123 6BG1 BG5C
    • 86 FTR123 6BG1 BG-5C
    • C402 JC420 6BD1 BD-5C
    • C398 FTR123 6BG1 BG-5C
    • C377 FTR123 6BG1 BG5-F
    • C364 FRR12FA 6BG1 BG-6U
and no one ever swaps over a gearbox because a second hand one was cheaper than repairing the OEM one.

So 7 that correspond to each other out of a list of ~200+

    Why isn't Sprint's 6BD1 fitted with a BD box???

With logic like that you should join JohnF's bible numerology group.

Well actually the list was less than 150.

Of the 50 X 6 cylinder engine trucks listed:
    • 9 do not list a gearbox at all. (50-9=41)
    • 3 list only a number of gears not the G/B model. (41-3=38)
    • all 3 6BB1 engines have BD-5C boxes. (38-3=35)
    • 2 are ZF automatics. (35-2=33)
    • 7 are Road Ranger transmissions. (35-7=26)
Which gives me a correlation of 27%

None of the 21 turbo motors follow the pattern but a significant number of the (22) NA engines (7/22) do (the turbo engines are frequently the ones with the autos or Road Ranger boxes).

Why Sprint's? Likely because it was a turbo engine and fitted with the later model box, just like the 6BB1 in the list, were fitted with the later BD-5C boxes where mine has an earlier BB-5? box

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
