Uk isuzu 110 county needs help

    Hi from the UK

    I have a friend with a 110 county 3.9 isuzu N/a diesel engine.
It was purchased brand new in Australia by his father and after his death shipped back to the UK.

His sump pan is thin and he struggles to find parts could anyone let me know the correct isuzu part numbers as isuzu in the uk tell him that isuzu did not fit engines into landrovers.

Any information about these type of landrovers would be useful as it is the only one we know of and nobody seems to have any info.

    Many thanks

Just ask an Isuzu dealer for an Isuzu 4BD1 sump. The original sumps fitted to civilian 110s were winged on one side (image 1 below), but Australian Army 110s run wingless (image 2 below) without any ill effects.

    Winged

    Wingless

If you need it, the part number for wingless sump below (Isuzu P/N at the bottom):

    Cheers

UK landrovers got it right... Isuzu didnt fit any engines to the landies, Landrover Australia did it.

The sumps from the NPR and isuzu industrial varients fit nicely

    Many thanks gentlemen

Are these engines still in production?

We're these engines only available in Australia?

Does anyone have any more information ie horse power? Spec reasons they were fitted?

about listed in military form as 66kw@3200 and assloads of torque with 245nm on tap at 1900RPM but with useable torque picking up from around 900rpm.

The engines once made in japan are again in production as a chinese copy they were put in becuase they were (and still are)
    • massively over engineered for what they needed to do
    • completely rebuildable
    • economical to run
    • nearly indestructible
    • utterly reliable
    • in the rare event you neeed to do a fix on it was a piece of cake to do so.

The engine was not only available in Australia being fitted to many trucks and industrial plant bits around the world but in terms of Land Rover it was only available in Australia for 2 reasons. 1. Pommy (and EURO) tax rulings on capacity 2. Yanks at the time did not believe that you could have a vehicle running on diesel unless it was a huge truck preferring the fuel guzzling V8 solution

At the time or the SIII Stage 1 Isuzu and later the 110 Isuzu Jaguar Rover Australia, as they were then, were also master dealers for Isuzu Marine and AFAIK the engines used in the early Isuzu Land Rovers were marine diesels and hence the differences in some components like the pistons and sumps.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Many many thanks

I have just learnt more in 5 minutes than months of asking questions in the UK. It sounds as though this is the engine landrover should have used in the rest of the world. Now I just need to find a supplier in the UK.
Do you know of any websites that would have a copy of the workshop manual??

The reason the engine was fitted is that the then available Rover engine did not provide sufficient performance, specifically for an upcoming Australian army contract.

They were first fitted to Series 3 Stage 1 as an alternative to the V8, probably to thoroughly try the engine in a Landrover.

They were then used in the military 110s and civilian 110s. In addition, the turbocharged version of the engine was used in both the military and civilian 6x6 110s. Production ceased with the introduction of the Defender, although this did not appear in Australia for over a year.

The engine was also used in a variety of Isuzu trucks.

I am not sure, but I think if you have a look at the CDs in "Shop" on the header of this page you may find what you are after.

The larger capacity version, the 4BG1T is still available as a marine/industrial engine.

Riddle, lots of info on this site too Isuzu 4BD1T/2T

Dougal, the mod for the 4BD1 section of that forum is Kiwi who posts regulalarly here and has a 4BD1T in an RRC.

Also, a 4BD1T manual here Isuzu Manuals - Page: 1

    (you'll need a torrent program)

Yep, Dave has included CD manuals to cover the Isuzu stuff, Here >> Isuzu Manual
I'm sure it wouldn't cost much to post a CD to the UK.
