In racing it is not so much the size of the intake pipe although it does need to be large enough. But the size of the still air box, a general rule of thumb is it needs to be 5 times larger than the capacity of the engine. Paul

So a suitable size air box for our motors will be between 19-20L in capacity ?

Non turbo engines get some very strong pulses right back to the air-box. Our turbos stop those shennanigans.

There may be benefit in a larger plenum on the intake manifold. But I haven't looked into it.

    Auh...
I just took my intake manifold off due to a leak around #1 I was contemplating making one with a larger plenum but after all the reading on intake design i cannot seem to find any specific reference to turboed engines like it does for NA engines. The lengths of runners varies the torque, tapered at one end,and an interesting thing was on the inside of the plenum on a "perfect" design the runners sit proud of the base ( something to do with the stream of air in the middle etc etc Isuzurover might add to this) I can imagine a large tube with entry at the front may be an improvement ?

Yes 19 to 20 litres. If you can remove the lid & leave the filter in you can test to see if you get better fuel consumption or an increase in power. If you do, then you need to build a bigger air box. Paul

Thanks I shal have a look and see what happens. I once had a pod filter straight onto the turbo inlet when in first stages of my tinkering until I started investigating and realized that they are no good and a few people said they are only a pod they don't filter I then by this stage plumbed the original filter in and did not notice any real difference.

How does a snorkel affect this, if at all?
