Yes it's low, but that's the only real-estate available. If the pipes came out on the other tangent (mirror imaged provent) I would have more options. Because this is in a rangie with no body or suspension lift the engine is the highest point in the engine bay.
Yes I can do an open pipe test. I'll just have to block the vent to the turbo, otherwise it'll suck my engine oil up just like Serge. Idle or driving?
Nope.
Batteries up front, full width radiator and air-con. Behind that 12/24v series/parrallel starting switch, isolation switches, PS reservoir, AC hoses, radiator remote tank and remote mounted oil filters. The only decent clear space is the bit reserved for the air/water intercooler in case it goes in some-time and the spaces needed for access to important bits.
Sure I could shift everything around and make some room, but I'm not remounting other stuff just to fit a seperator in.
Say, I thought these engines were supposed to be built proof
FYI
I have a provent fitted and don't have any problems with oil outflowing from the provent however, I do have oil residue leaking down the top of the dipstick tube when my provent has collected some oil (less than the amount required to freely drain from the filter).
Cheers
Haha that's supposed to be "Bullet" proof but I'm sure you get the drift.
Yeah, having said that I've only ever had to replace the bolt on auxiliary components since its birth![]()
It's survived running on it's own oil about half a dozen times in the last few months. That's pretty bullet proof.
Well, I had the same problem as Dougall and no one would consider my engine as having high blowby.
I have tried his fix and so far so good. I've done about 30 mins @ 110kph
The basic design of the Provent is wrong I think.
You have the suction at the bottom and on the out side of the element however, the drain is also in parallel with the suction. So, as I see it, there is no reason why the suction can't just draw oil straight from the sump via the drain. Maybe I'm wrong but, that is how I see it.
Dougalls fix works.
When I purchased my Provent I got with it a 1 way valve that is inline in the drain from Provent to sump. I think it was a separate but relatively cheap item. I'm assuming you don't have one of these?
