    Hi Brian

Does it fit into the 2" blank hole?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Diana, the OD of the body is 80 mm & the bezel is 88mm. I mounted it above dash to the left of the existing binnacle. I used a 1960's Smiths tacho housing and machined an adaptor ring from black nylon to give the extra length needed to fit into the Smith's housing.

Here are photos taken before installation.

VDO 333 015 037 0 - 4000rpm 52mm 12V is what I have fitted in mine. Fits perfectly in the panel hole, but the bezel is a slightly different profile to the original instruments so not EXACTLY the same.
I added the wire to the alternator myself (the standard 40A Nippondenso alternator). Not a hard job and plenty of info on the 'net to show you how to do it.

Cant tell you the crank/alternator ratio, but the dip switches and trim pot on the tacho allowed me to get it calibrated perfectly. Calibrated using an optical tacho onto the harmonic balancer.

As others have said - its not needed so much for driving, useful for playing with turbos etc, but IS a great brag instrument when offroad.
Pretty steep climb in the high country - D1 V8 around 4000 RPM in 1st low. Isuzu County - about 1700 RPM in 3rd low
    Just looove that torque..

A friend of mine just bought a universal 130amp Bosch alternator for his RRC, found out the tach terminal is right there on the back.

Most Bosch alternators do, what they don't have is the vacuum pump for the brakes.

Another tacho option is the tinytach - they take a signal from a transducer that fits over one of the injector lines.

I know, but there are other vac pump options, e.g.
