    hi everyone

The 6x6 - both civvie and military, got the T as factory fitment. I have never heard of a 4x4 which left the factory with a turbo engine.

In the late 80's we did get the sales literature here. I recall seeing non turbo 4x4 and turbo 6x6. But that was only one snapshot in time.

I'd suggest buying it first and asking more questions later. Factory turbo engines have a completely different breather setup and won't have any dodgy looking cross-over tubes, that will be your most obvious clue.

More than a few 4BD1s just by the number of owners on here!

    Indeed.

One guy told me that only 700 5-speed 4BD1 countys were sold. However even that number I find to small to be believed (and the guy was trying to sell a slightly rusty county for $14k at the time).

Certainly, between 1984 and 1988 the price doubled! From ~$22k to ~$44k! due to inflation. As a result there are a lot more 4-speeds around (and some 5-speeds have of course been converted). It would be interesting to get the actual sales numbers.

There were ~3000? Perenties built, most 4x4.
My guess would be double or triple that number of diesel countys. Plus 120" utes and 6x6s on top of that.

Back on topic, Brett, post up some pics of the engine and we can tell you if it is a factory setup or not.

I agree with the others. To the best of my knowledge, the turbo was only fitted to the 6x6, both civil and military. And I don't know the number of diesel Counties built, but there seemed to be no shortage of them about when I bought mine twenty years ago, without even looking at the 120s. 6x6s, though, were always quite scarce, but all were turboed.

i have no usefull input but i have never seen a factory turboed 4x4 county and have only ever seen one civvie 6x6.
would be interesting to see photos
would also be good to see some differences between the 6x6 T motors compared to the truck/industrial T motors.
if anyone needs any info on the 4x4 or 6x6 perenties i have a set of army issue perentie workshop manuals that go into rediculous detail if anyone needs any specs just ask and ill see what i can find.

My '88 County (V8 when new) cost the previous owner $49k off the showroom floor, then he spent another $32k doing 'stuff' to it, then he sold it to me for a lot less than he paid for it

It's possible the dealer fitted a turbo, or 4BD1T. There's a guy in our club who bought a 4BD1T engine brand new in a crate from ULR in Melbourne and fitted it to his Rangie.

From all the info I have there never was a factory fitted turbo 4X4, only the 6X6 had the turbo motor. The 4X4 had the industrial version motor whereas the 6X6 had the automotive motor (same as the Isuzu trucks).
