A while back, I bought a good LT95 with a very good overdrive fitted for $500. The overdrive by itself would have been worth $500.

I have an opportunity to buy a reco'd LT95 and TC.
Facts are;
1. There is no paperwork confirming what was done.
2. They were fitted to a RR that had the reco work done. This RR was driven
by the current GB/TC seller and no faults were noted in g'box or TC.
3. The current owner bought the RR and kept only the engine and g'box/tc for
later transfer to a Stage 1. He never got around to it.
4. The GB and TC have sat around in a dry garage for 5-6 years with a blanket
over them.
The question is , what would be a fair and reasonable price to agree on?

If it's been sitting for that long, make sure you have a look inside to the extent possible before handing over any money. Condensation can sometimes be a problem and anything above the oil level can be rusted/pitted. Also drop the oil and see what's floating around in it. If the seller won't let you do these things, don't buy it.
In any event the value shouldn't be over the top, as a "reco" can mean a lot of things.
Quite a while back I sold a good LT95 (Ex Stage 1 V8) for $250.
I would treat a "reco" with no receipts and a long storage period as no different from a good 2nd hand unit
I bought a reco'd LT95 about 3 years ago for $250.00 on fleabay. The guy didn't have receipts but said he had spent over 2k's having it reco'd & said to quiz Anthony at Toorak Tractors. It came out of a bush pig Rangie that had siezed.
It's not for sale, as I'm putting it in the Isuzu as the taper transfer currently in it is noisy & needs new bearings, easier to swap whole as this one has a .996 to 1 ratio.
If it were for sale I would be rapt to get $450 or more.
BTW, It has sat around for 3 or more years so far & I removed the trf case cover & its spick,n,span.
I recently got two Rangie LT95's up here for $150, condition as good as unknown, but good according to the previous owner, they look okay inside though.
