    Making the LT 95 slipperier

I know it's April 1 but this advice was given early Sat night

A car nut/learned car racing friend has advised that dosing the gearbox with 300-400mls of auto trans fluid will make changes so much better.

    What say you

I reckon a good synthetic GL4 gear oil will do the job.

Something like Castrol Syntrans which has the same viscosity as mineral engine oil with more shear protection.

The bloke who rebuilt my gearbox had me drive the first 500km on atf, then change to the proper stuff. It changed much better on the recommended engine oil!

Is that advice specific to the LT95?
Will it make it as good as a Isuzu box

    LT95 Oils

I don't know about playing with things like oils - my last rebuilt LT95 has just clocked up 600000 km with only the odd seal worn out. And it sounds like its good for another 600000 yet.

A full oil change has been carried out at every engine change (Caltex GTX2 used only as per the Owners Handbook). Now that’s approx $1500 in oil over 10 years but what is the cost of pulling out one of those lumps and doing an overhaul? (Thinking of my aching back here).

Oil changes frequently is my tip.

I used to do that to my M21 Muncies ... 50/50 90W and ATF ... made quick shifts in cold weather a breeze. Not sure about an LT95 though, would think that the recommended brew is already thin enough.

    Cheers.
