You will need someone to make an adapter between the auto box and the LT230 transfer. For a one off adapter that will cost money.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Bazzle, I am concerned that the MU engine has an electronic injector pump, if it has definately then it will be a problem for reliability and hook up.

I think it will be a good engine BUT the transmission etc will be a different kettle of fish. Fitting it to the LT230 would be nigh on impossible, I would suggest using either the engine only and keeping the Landy trans, or carefully checking whether the MU uses the selecttrac type of transfer case or some other. Also, IIRC the rear tailshaft exits centrally, and the park brake in a MU is a rear wheel caliper type NOT a transmission type like the Defender.

Does the Isuzu MU have rear drum brakes or disk?

I have a mechanic mate who is finishing off an uncompleted 40 series Land Cruiser conversion for a customer. The conversion included spring-overs, Chev 350 V8 and Blazer transmission all partially done before he got the job. The problem is that the Chev Blazer has the park brake on the wheels but the Cruiser had it on the rear output. Now the truck has no hand-brake so he is looking for the rear drum brake assemblies for a Toyota Stout with fully floating rear axle. The other option would be some other equivalent rear drum assembly with park brake.

    And therefore very expensive.

I am confused by the mention of the 2.8 Paj - 4M40 diesel???

The Isuzu MU is fitted with a 4JB1T. Isuzu 2.8L diesel. Good engine, however the imported variants like the MU have a rubber belt instead of timing gears like the domestic (rodeo/jackaroo/truck) engines.

Adaptor plates to mate the 4JB1 to all manner of landrover boxes are available from the UK.

If the OP wants to mate an auto box to the LT230 t-case then a custom adaptor (as mentioned) will be needed, or a divorced case LT230 setup.

These pics should explain? Basically the LT230 is mounted separately, and connected to the gearbox with a propshaft. How easily you can do this would depend on the length of the auto and what the back of it looks like.

I don't know anyone near you who could do the work. It would be completely custom so they would need the vehicle + drivetrain for measurements. Buds customs in Brisbane is probably the closest I can suggest.

    No conversion is cheap.

What about using a Toyota 13BT 3.4 liter Turbo 4 cyl from a BJ74 or BJ42 cruiser, complete with Toyota 5 speed box & transfer case.

The T/C already has the propshaft positions correct, & you can very easily fit an output housing with handbrake from a 40 series Transfer case.

The 13BT is probably one of the best ever Toyota engines (probably because its made by Daihatsu) and would be even better inter cooled.

    Toyota Daihatsu 13B T BJ74 Landcruiser Engines

Bonus = If you use Landcruiser propshafts you never need to replace your UJ's or slip joints again either.
