A flywheel from an early KB series 2200cc (C223 engine) diesel rodeo may be applicable?
My BIL tuboed and intercooled a C223 in a Rodeo ute, and made his own LPG injection too. Went really well

I've been to look at a Series 3 SWB today that's fitted with an Isuzu Elf C240 motor. The vehicle is in good condition with no rust in the chassis or bulkhead and comes with a lot of spares.
The current owner has given up on it because of problems locating a flywheel. He went to the trouble of having a casting made but never got round to getting it machined.
I don't expect this conversion to have much more power than a LR 2.5D but I'm wondering about availabilty of a suitable flywheel or would this originally have come with the adaptor kit ?

Thanks Justin, there's a Rodeo wrecker just down the road from where I work I'll drop in and see if they can help.

Isuzu 4JB1 flywheels are rumoured to be interchangable. Back when the Bighorn/Jackaroo had the C223 people were swapping them out with the 4JB1T.
Sounds like I need to do some further investigation before committing to buy this one. I really need to take some measurements and work out whether I can buy a flywheel that can easily be modified to fit or find someone who has done this conversion before and can run through the pitfalls.
The guy has a 200Tdi motor that could be included in the sale but he wants $2.5K for it. I know it would be a better conversion but I already have about three too many projects (so the wife tells me......).

I tried a couple of Isuzu wreckers without any luck so I called up the company that service our forklift (because the Elf motor was common in forklifts).
"Can't help with a secondhand flywheel but we have a C240 motor on the floor at the moment, it's a reco about to be installed. You're welcome to come down and take some measurements, I'll then look up which forklifts use them and you can contact those companies direct....."
So hopefully I can get an idea of the price of a flywheel thanks to Two Bay Forks in Dandenong. My only concern is what a new flywheel will end up costing.......

Forklifts are auto so flywheel still presents a problem (Doh).
C223 flyheel is $200 secondhand from a wrecker, he's happy for me to take measurements first, possibly an option.
Other option is that the motor may end up as a boat anchor....

Thanks Justin,
Checked with Isuzu and the flywheel is no longer available from Japan.
I've spoken with the owner and he said there were a few issues and it was never perfect (he got the motor conversion out of a Land Rover he was parting out).
He thinks the standard flywheel once machined down to fit is too thin.
I can fit a C223 flywheel to get the motor started and check it out (turns out he has a s/h one that cost him $50 !)
Anyway, he had an SG iron blank cast (cost $190 2 years ago) and has all the dimensions, plus he has 2 ring gears. Question is....will it need balancing once it's machined and what would that cost ??
Looks like I might be buying another project, our machinist at work should be able to carry out most of the work on the flywheel over a few weeks.
