			200tdi to 4bd1

					Hi all,
Hoping someone knows of a forum member that has completed a 200tdi Defender to 4bd1. I have searched and searched but only google seams to turn a result but no 200tdi to Isuzu.
I am ready to complete the conversion but just after a few answers and hoping someone with the experience can caution me on anything unforeseen! I have three days to complete the swap, don't need any surprises.
Cheers, Tristan

					Hey,
If that's it I've got it hosed, have a genuine pair of mounts and chassis dimensions for placement.
I'm just unsure if the gearbox mounting holes are 10mm further forward in the County because that's how they measure in relation to front radius arm mounts.
I also hoping lower radiator brackets are the same between County and early Defender?
Cheers, Tristan

Mine was sort of a 200tdi/LT77 to 4BD1/LT95 conversion.
I say 'sort of' as it was born a 1985 V8, had a 200tdi conversion before I bought it, and I did the 4BD1 install.
My LT77 used the same mounts as the V8, but not sure if thats the same in a genuine 200tdi.
The 200tdi seatbox and tunnel is different than the County, and the LT95 wont fit in the trans tunnel. I got hold of some LT95 panels, but still had to hack up the seatbox a bit. Thats your first gotcha.
- Power steering hoses need sorting
- Engine mounts are no great drama
- Front prop shaft was different length for me (but that could be due to using a Stage1 LT95 which has a longer output housing). Best to check....
- LT95 is normally vacuum CDL, so you'll need a vacuum switch to operate it
- EDIC/Shutoff actuator
- Standard 4bd1 alternator had external regulator (200tdi was internal)
- use the 1" bore clutch slave (not the 7/8" 200tdi one) or clutch will be heavy.
Probably lots of other little bits and pieces but there's a few to start with.
What radiator and fan shroud are you going to use?
I documented quite a bit in my conversion thread so you might find some useful info here

					Hi Steve,
Thankyou for your reply. I have everything on your list covered except the transmission tunnel
I did think about it briefly as I was looking at a County body, very different floor pan. I might see if I can find and adapt a County tunnel, this is where the time blows out isn't it! I suspect just the floor will be a full day on its own
Did you notice if the lower radiator brackets were original in yours? I'm using a factory radiator from a County.
Cheers, Tristan

Lower radiator brackets are the same as 200tdi. "U" shaped brackets that have a rubber grommet/mount to accept the pins on the radiator. I used a V8 radiator with the inlet/outlet changed around to match the landy Isuzu hoses.
There's 3 sections to the County tunnel. Front section bolts straight up to the firewall in place of the 200tdi one, the mid section requires cutting/drilling the floor panels to suit (but is bigger than 200tdi so no drama) and the rear section requires some cutting of the seatbox to be able to fit it. Seatbox needs to be cut to fit the transmission in anyway, so its not just cosmetic.
If you happen to be getting radiator hoses off ebay, get the ones from Gary at CLR as they fit correctly. There has been another seller for about half the price, but one of the hoses is wrong (from memory its the upper one).
