IHI Turbo is breaking down again

Hello guys, i have got some bad IsuzuLandy 4BD1Tnews from the Netherlands. My turbo is making a squeeking noise again. It's the same noise my turbo made last August when pulling the caravan. Then, the bearings and the turbinewheels were complte worn. I had the chance to buy a new IHI turbo (not a China one) and I mounted it. I have driven about 6000 km now, most of it was Highway-use.
After mounting the new turbo, I measured 5 bar oil pressure at the inlet from the oilpipe. To me this looked ok.
I am curious what kind of problems are known with these turbo's, so I can make a right Diagnose of my turbo problem, and after that solve the problem.

Is there a valve in the spin on oil filter or bypassfilter?

    I use truck oil 15W 40-VDS3
    a 300Tdi air filter.

    Hi Takel

If your compressor wheel is damaged, then you likely have debris getting into your intake. Check all the connections carefully and also look for weld slag or corrosion on the inside of your intake pipes.

A leaking manifold gasket can sound a lot like a bad turbo. Check your manifold gaskets and also between the turbo and manifold.

What I forgot to mention is that there is too much play in radial direction of the turbine wheel. Looks like there is something wrong with the oil system, (not enough pressure, or something else), or the turbo is overspeeding.
Does anyone have experience with these problems?

All bushing turbos like these have radial play, but when spinning with oil pressure the shaft runs centred on a film of oil. It is only if you can see where the wheels rub the housing that you have a problem.

Overspeed requires overboost or taking more flow than the turbo should produce. I don't think either of those should be occuring.

What is the turbo doing that makes you think something is wrong?

In conjunction with what dougal has stated if the turbo becomes unbalanced via say a significant chip etc etc out of either turbine or comp wheels then a journal bearing (bush) can develope a problem with shaft cavitation in oil layer this can also occur with incorrect oil grade...overspeeding is the cause of my last turbo failure but this is unlikely for yours as dougal said...any spinning part that contacts any part of the housing in a turbo creates a loud screeching scratching sound more noticeable on startup...if under full load and the noise is occurring I would experiment with wastegate adjustment...
As for oil pressure I often wonder if this may have aided in my turbo failur as my engine ran for awhile with idling problems that in turn caused dramatic oil pressure fluctuations and leads me to wonder if this may have effected the journal bearings however a bb turbo requires less oil...

I think there is something wrong with my turbo, because you hear a squeeking noise now and then when the turbo has to work hard, or sometimes you hear a quick squeek noise when driving on the highway at about 100 km/h.

Check all your intake and exhaust gaskets for leaks. A manifold leak sounds a lot like a dying turbo.

    Cool

Thanks for the input. As soon as I can find the time, I will check everything.

    Opening pressure safety valve

    Hello,

Does anyone know at what pressure the safety valve in the pipe after the Turbo and before the inlet manifold opens? Mine opens too early I think, I will measure it precisely at my work, but it looks like it opens already at 1 bar (+/- 10 KPa, if I am right).
I am afraid that a lot of turbopressure has gone away, and that the waste gate of the turbo has not had enough pressure to open, and that the turbowheels have been spinning all the time.

Around 15psi or 1 bar. Take it out and plug the hole. It's not needed.
