Iirc they are required for ADR compliance...

I much prefer the engine stop pull cable. Very reliable. Means I can take the keys out to open the back door without killing the engine, or leave it running on the driveway while I run inside to get whatever it is I have forgotten.
I recall it was not long after '85 that that particualr ADR came in.

So it does no harm turning the ignition off and leave the motor running...... Thanks.

One other good point of the old cable stop. If for some reason you have a flat battery and no means to jump start it you can still get going. Jut got tow or roll start and your away.

This option is not ruled out for those with the electrical actuated stop cable - just have to disconnect the cable from the stop lever on the governor, however you then have to manually pull the lever to stop.

I think the solenoid stoppers became compulsory in 1983. I could be wrong by a year or two. From the early seventies in Qld. stop cables were required to be of the locking type, or work in the opposite direction to what had been. That is, pull on, push off. This ensures that the engine is not rendered "live" by accidental pushing "on". We had to modify all the Leyland trucks that arrived from factories.

I've used the cutout device (EDIC ??) from a Mazda T3500 truck. 12v and easily adapted to the 4bd1.
cost me $25 from a truck wrecker.

hmm is there anything actually unique about the jedico original item that prevents using any similar truck solenoid as per steveG's post?

I can (obviously) by the original locally given chop hock hong is about 5km from where I am sitting, but what the heck, $180 is $180 if I don;t need to spend it
