    12ht

We have a good customer with a 12ht, we put new glow plugs in not long ago! I dont know if all 12ht's had glow plugs! Large truck diesels dont have glow plugs, Detroit, Cummins, Caterpillar, Mack, Scania, Volvo

    x2.

first thing i did was disconnect that pipe and fit a small fuel filter on the end to allow filtered air breathing if needed. i use that pipe in the inlet tract as a pickup for a boost gauge now, so no wonder you were having crankcase pressure issues!

if only you'd posted those engine pics earlier we could've picked that straight away

Mmmm interesting...all my manuals say they do not have glow plugs but the 2h does...the 12ht me and my mate are striping down at the moment does not have glow plugs but as you said it may be variants that do and don't...

What are the big ones using for cold-start? I have a large hitachi excavator brochure here (160 ton) which mentions ether starting in cold weather.

Toyota used glow-screens in the 1HD-FT engines, but went back to glow-plugs for their V8 diesel (which is two 4 cyl avensis engines glued together).

I ran a hose from the original crankcase breather and T'ed into the extra breather i put onto the inspection cover but I am still getting a lot of oil in the catch can.

I find it hard to believe that the NA engines would send that oil back in the intake but I am still only learning.

I am going to blank off the inspection cover breather and just run the original one to the catch can to see if it brings the level of oil down.

If this doesn't work then is the only way to prevent so much oil escaping is a filter like justin c mentioned?

I guess the aim is to let the air but not the oil out.

I am not running any glow plugs on mine as you cans see by the pictures, never had any sign of trouble with starting even on cold mornings.

The hose from your breather should go to your catch can and then from the catch can to your air supply leading to the turbo. If it goes to your air supply after the turbo you will pressurise your crankcase.

i personally wouldnt even do that...why i say this is because i dont want oil vapour getting sucked into my compressor the only thing i like is clean cold air i dont run any provents or catch cans etc etc i just vent straight to atmosphere as my oil change intervals are very close so the losses dont worry me

I run a provent, and have done so for the past 60k so there is no oil vapour going into compressor, but my main point is you have to ensure you have it plummed properly, or as chief said vent to atmosphere.
