I have a 6bd1 pump on mine which came from a wrecker for $80, bolts straight on.

The timing gear for the PAS pump is part of the pump assembly. You will only require the timing cover (and pump with front outlet) if your cover doesn't have the pump mount.

    pas and air pump

Hi Steve, are you using an Endless Air compressor? I'm just using std sanden compressors until they get noisy then put another 1 on! I have the SD508 or 517 ttype compressor that has the fittings that are pointing up not rearwards. There are lots of different end plates on sanden type compressors and the model number shows what type of end plate and fittings.

My pas pump is side outlet, but my motor has been raised up so the short oil filter will not hit front propshaft, the rear filter is remotely mounted. My bonnet has been lifted so it clears, just, the motor. The outlet on the pump just clears the ram housing on the 4 bolt steering box.

Ive done alot of severe offroading, and even bent front axle housing hitting a hole at 90kmh, but nothing has touched.

Most of the truck ones that I've seen have the outlet pointing towards the RH side, which can give clearance issues with the steering box in a 110 (esp. the 3-bolt box). I managed to find a front outlet pump at a truck wrecker, but I had to rebuild it as the internals were stuffed.

There is a larger pump which I'm pretty sure is from the 6bd1 and fits onto the same mount and drive gear.

I recently fitted a converted Sanden compressor for onboard air, but its just the usual belt driven setup. If you happen to go that way just make your own brackets unless you can get hold of the original LR ones. I got brackets from a truck motor but had clearance issues between compressor and the LH engine mount as the mount is shorter (and closer to the block) in a LR than it is in a truck.

I'm using the 715?? compressor (7 piston one - larger than the 508) with ports that point upwards. I did a bit of conversion myself, plugging the balance hole in the valve plate, fitting a grease nipple and giving it a decent gob of grease in the body. Only been on there for about 6 weeks but got a decent workout on our Cape York trip. Will see how long it lasts.

Anyone know if the 4bd2 PAS pump will slot into the 4bd1?

As said if your engine has the 3 bolt plate on the timing cover under the pump drive you can fit a gear driven ps pump from either a 4b or 6b engine. Some Stage 1 motors had no provision for the ps pump on the timing cover.
    ITs not clutch driven...

    Its dog engagement.

you have to stop the engine, turn the pump crank to line up the engagement pins and start the engine at idle.

you cant run the engine much over 900RPm as there is a fly weight on the engagement that throws out above that and disengages the spring loaded engagement pin.

the pumps dont last anyway usually snapping off one of the reeds and are as slow as all hell.

That's the truck style pump and will bolt up to the engine fine. It has the outlet on the RH side pointing towards the steering box. If you're running a 4-bolt box then there is clearance, but IME I couldn't get enough room to get any sort of fitting into it with a 3-bolt box due to its larger physical size.

The pump fitted to genuine Isuzu 110's has the outlet at the front of the housing pointing forwards towards the radiator so no clearance issues.
