Stage ONE suspension
Two items that I would appreciate some feedback.
1. I have a set of very healthy Iron Man parabolic springs (F & R). These apparently were fitted to a SIII LWB six cylinder vehicle originally. I have already fitted the rear springs up. I would like to fit the front up but wonder at the weight difference between the L/R six and the 4BD1. Does any one here have knowledge of this?? There is a one-leaf difference between the front springs (Ironman) and the original springs on my car having the extra leaf. I would have thought that the old Rover six was nearly as heavy as the 4BD1. Is there a big difference?
2. I have a set of Bilstein shocks originally fitted to a late Cruiser troopy, and after a lot of hunting around, decided to modify the shocks to suit (for the front- modify the studs to and 'eye' set up). The rear is another matter again. I am looking at using SIII front spring plates and fitting to the rear salisbury (the front spring plates have an 'eye' set up that suits the shocks in hand). Any thoughts on this?
There is an angle issue for the rear shocks (at the top eye) but it looks within range (ie not stressing the body of the shock through the full range of travel). The front plates will need to be turned around to suit the application- the 'peg' will be situated forward of the axle and the shock will be outside of the spring.
Any thoughts on this?? Seems daft or sensible to you?
I want these shocks fitted up in an effort to improve road manners and options are limited for quality shocks on the old leaf spring vehicles.
