or you could just put a radial cam into the spring seat so that as you open the throttle it applies extra pressure to the spring and backs it off when you ease off (or vice versa depending on if your using boost air control or vac control)
or you go steam engine on it and manufacture a sliding sleeve valve like they use on locos to control how much of the stroke is done under applied pressure and how much is under expansion. Cut the "exhaust port" as a triangular taper to give it progression and done.
