    What temp??

    Hey there,

I'm wondering if anyone knows the appropriate temperature a 4BD1 should run at in a hot climate?? temp gauge is on the high side but is a bit all over the shop and is giving me some ridiculous readings at the moment. I've pulled my cooling system to bits and it has a new radiator blah blah blah. I just want to know what is a safe temp??

I plan on getting an electronic gauge to give me a precise numerical reading.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The thermostat should open fully at 82c and it should run about that temp but up to 95 is fine.

Mine runs at 80 but will climb when worked hard or sitting in traffic but only till about 90. I'd be looking at the sender too if the gauge is all over the place. Repco should have one that fits.

Rijidij has posted in the past about temp spikes that disappear if he leaves the coolant cap undone a notch. Real temp spikes confirmed by aftermarket gauge and engine watchdog.

    Might be worth a try.

I agree with Bearman. For a diesel, running at high temp is far better than cold, so long as boiling/overheating is avoided.

Factory gauges are not renowned for accuracy.
