4BD1T and gearbox - where to get one??
As I posted in an earlier thread, my 300tdi has done its dash, and I need to source a replacement engine. I've wanted to drop in an Isuzu engine for a while, and figured that if one ever crossed my path, I'd get around to it. current situation changes that somewhat.
I can of course drop in another tdi, but it seems somewhat of a waste of money seeing as I'still like to drop in an Isuzu motor in the future.
My question is, , how difficult would it be at the moment to get my hands on a 4BD1T engine and MSA gearbox? Do I have a snowballs chance in hell of getting my hands on the necessary components in weeks, rather than months??

The engine was used in trucks about 20+ years ago so will be getting a little thin on the ground. I'd start ringing truck wreckers. Chinese are making copies of the engine for industrial use so you could also go one of those. You should try for a turbo version, they come with the oil squirters to cool the pistons. Although the engine will not be working that hard pushing a LR around so if you can't get a turbo one you might have to do your own conversion and put up with the lack of the aneroid injection pump.

Sheldon (the_grubb) has a good line on gearboxes (and presumably engines). Plus you would be a fool not to buy one of his adaptor kits.
Offender90 had a surplus 4BD1 at one stage (and lives in ADL). One of the WA guys just bought an Isuzu county, and wants to offload an isuzu Stage 1. In practice there seems to be no difference in longevity between 4BD1+T or genuine 4BD1Ts in landies.
You will also need to source a disco 1.2:1 or a (RRC) 1.003:1 t-case.
