Doing an oil change today and decided to check endfloat on the rockers, turns out rocker 1 and 4 were very lose! I'll need a shim about 46 thou for the back and 30 thou for the front.

Anyone know what the shaft diameter is? Or where I can get some shims from?

BTW- how do you guys turn the engine to check tappets- lot of compression on these engines and belt will just spin on pulley trying to turn by hand-i guess removing glow plugs might help?

Put it in gear and take the hand brake of and push the truck, and yeah I think with the glow plugs out.

EDIT: Damn JC, you win :)

I envisioned having to remove glow plugs, but found that it wasn't all that bad. 42mm socket on the pulley nut with a standard length rachet and it was fine if turned slowly.

I did have the radiator out though which obvipusly makes that method easier

I am still having no luck sourcing some shim washers. I have tried local engine rebuilders. Any other suggestions?

From what I can work out the 300tdi valve spring washers that JC used in the original post are partno. ETC8193.

When I did mine I jacked up the front passenger side wheel and put it in top gear. You can turns the wheel over with your foot while you are looking at the tap pits.

If turning some shims on the lathe, would it be an idea to use bearing bronze instead of mild steel ?
