Swap a RRC/4BD1 combo to a Disco body?

I have the 'opportunity' to get an 82 (I think) RRC with a 4bd1 in it, but the interior is well shagged.
Is the RRC body easily swapped with a Disco1 body of say mid 90's and if so, what legal stuff re: engineering certs, need to be done, if any? I'm in Tassie, but i'd think regs would apply nationally... but I might stand corrected.

Oh, and the reason is, Mrs circlework loves the Disco and I love the 4BD1 and don't mind Disco's either.

    Thanks,
    Daryl.

The RRC and disco I chassis are basically the same, nothing that I would see affecting a body swap.

The disco body is about 75mm shorter at the rear, it seams LR thought having a rear step was more important than the loss of internal space . But the body still mounts on the same points as on the RRC chassis. This is also where the disco body often develops cracks because the structural integrity suffered by making the step area.

It usually isn't too much problem getting rego - it will become a re-bodied range rover of the same year , not a later disco, as the chassis is what determines these matters.

The short-stick/long-stick gear lever positions will be your biggest problem. Depending of course on which gearbox you want to use. Grubb was working on a short-stick MSA lever.

If you started with a 300tdi disco, you could probably sell the disco chassis with the RRC body on it quite easily and cover most of your costs.

The donor RRC currently uses an LT95 with Stage1 transfer ratio.

I'm now wondering if a 95-97ish HSE would fit the old chassis ... why not go in a little luxury.
I know there is a bit to do to get the gear lever integrated, let alone the electrics ... all part of the fun ... it wouldn't be a 'project' if it was easy.

    Thanks,
    Daryl.

I thought P38's were 100" like the RRC and Disco1 @ 2 or is the HSE longer?
    Cheers

OK, so any Rangie with a build date later than Jan, 1995 is off the menu, as well as the Lse Classic, is that correct?
So the actual choice comes down to: any Disco1 or any RRC apart from the Lse?
