A friend of mine is assembling Isuzu motors in China for the project they are working on, if you pm me a phone number and an email address I'll pass it on to him and he may be able to assist you.
You may be pleasantly surprised at the "cost" of a complete motor.
Don't forget, the chinese have a policy of not accepting the copyrights and patents that we all have to abide by. The original designers may not have had any say in the copying and thence would not provide support with spares.

once apon a time parts people knew or could get product suport.
dificult to get any info for products now and its hammered in to service employees not to guess as people are quick to demand compensation.
started off working with japanese imports-not only the parts might be different for australia but even the material they are made from changes due to UV and temperature.got to know plenty of switched on kiwi that worked on small markets providing services.
replace plenty on parts in dealership campains that are not recalls.
same applies in other countries.visted a japanese car dealer that had skip bins of new heater fan motorsheaded for the crusher.

Run for the hills man!!! Would you jump off a cliff using a Chinese harness... I wouldn't! Everything I see that has Chinese engineering involvement has been bad. Chinese front axles on John Deere's... Snapping, Chinese tractors on Gumtree... 130 hours, hardly used.. There's lots of them. Why sell a new tractor with that little hours on it. As Ag dealers we won't touch them.. Even if they are free, Chinese copy parts like half shafts.. Bang! Oops! Japan, European, and some American diesels are well built.. and they're reliable. Korean stuff is marginally better than Chinese but the Mitsi copy engine in tractors likes to snap cranks in std form.. Your call, but as a buyer I crack the s***s when I pick up a Baldwin filter and it has 'Made in China' on it. The material quality and strength just isn't there. Just my opinion tho. Chinese condoms..... :D
It is the factory and and the will power of that factory if they want their quality where it should be.
It is little known that Bobcat skid steers and excatvators are fully chinese build as is the motors in alot of japanese equiptment.
I sell some chinese forklifts, but I sell one of the better brands of chinese forklift..........not any serious problems.....only minor ones and I warn the customer.
I sell Jap forklifts too and they are better, but dearer.......its up to the customer.
After saying that anyone who buys a non australia wide dealer backed forklift, especially a internet forklift, expect total and complete rubbish and total non parts back up.......the price will be good, but not worth it in any shape or form.
Not impressed with most machinery from China or anything from Land Rover

If LR built to the quality of that chuck ! still as good as new :D .Maintenance
over that time bout as much oil as a LR drips in a day:D However LR have one
good point A good base for modifications:D

I'm no engineer (dropped out twice now, love it, can't stick at it though; damn time machine is broken too. so can't go back either...) but what I do know is it is really well established engine tech I'm interested in, stuff that is well within the capability of hundreds of Chinese foundries/ engineering firms.
There has to be a bell curve of quality there too, like anywhere, pay crap money get crap. though the reverse isn't always true though, plenty of con artists in the Peoples Republic.
Asked some questions about the relationship with Isuzu to a supplier I was talking to, got told that until I buy an engine, they won't tell me anything!

If you are looking for a 4BD1 go and buy a 80's or early 90,s NPR truck. Not only do you get the engine but the transmission as well.
I have 2 4BD1's, 1 4BD1T and 2 4BB1's all with transmissions, all from scraped trucks, after you remove what you want just sell the rest for scrap.
All but one were under 2K.
The 4BD1T is from a NPS300 which is a 4WD truck and will have one of the 4BB1 engines fitted so i can have the turbo engine for the 90 and still have a great farm truck.
I think that reliablity is the deciding factor over the Chinese copy, also Isuzu parts are a lot cheaper than you might think.

not just fit and finish, but QC on materials. They are well known for substituting what ever will "do the job" if they run out or can get it cheaper. Problem is, "what ever will do" may be far from what actually will do the job properly
There is no way in hell id be buying one of those
