Engines from China

i have it in the back of my head that there is an emerging market forming now that it looks like the 90/110/130 platform will be discontinued in 2015. those 200/300 tdi (and eventually the TD5s) will not last forever, but the chassi/bodies obviously have no real competition out there for sheer beautiful simplicity and won't be retired for a long time to come.

apart from the TD5, I don't think many will want to recon the tdi's if there is a better 'Isuzu' alternative on the market.

given the right quality (the chinese are more than capable, it will be only a matter of time that they are the new Japan) I just wonder who in the Middle Kingdom has picked up on that opportunity.

Shanghai has 22 million people and more steel works than a month long trip of stick pointing would take in. and that is just shanghai.

i work in the building industry and the quality of the 'aluzinc' colorbond alternative is better than bluescope products, and the steel in general for construction has come a long way in the last decade.

I would have no problem building with chinese products, it's mostly WA iron ore to start with anyway! I'm pretty sure i already am considering Bluescope has most of it's coil coming from china these days. It's just some paint and a brand separating the products now.

from what i can tell, they are well known for supplying crap because that is what the market expects from them in the price they demand.

I would pay good money for a brand new engine given the right assurances on the QC side of things. from what i can tell, all the recon bits Isuzu supply are from china anyway.

I haven't done the research yet on building a motor from genuine Isuzu spares yet, that will be interesting.

Interesting phone call to Isuzu parts. Apparently there are 'alot' of imported (chinese) NPR's on the road that came in during the 80's/90's and it's hard to distinguish them from the genuine thing.

Makes me wonder how, on finding the right truck, how I would know whether it is the Chinese version or the Japanese one if Isuzu Parts say 'they are hard to tell apart'

Which leads me to wonder how may landrovers already are running chinese 4BD1 engines thinking because they came from an 'Isuzu truck', they are the genuine item?

I haven't found a chinese 4BD1T powered NPR. But I did find a chinese truck a few years back where truck parts were interchangable with NPR and engine parts interchangable with 4BE1.

I have seen the Chinese version of the 4BD1 and they are very different to the genuine Japanese one. Plus all the electrics are different and have Chinese writing on the id plates so I doubt that is true.
