I dont think it matters for the heater does it? IIRC the inlet and outlet are the same height, but if they are not, in through the lower one, and out through the higher one. This helps clear trapped air.
Silly question probably, but which direction does the coolant flow from engine to heater matrix and back again? Want to be doubly sure before I start bending up pipework to fit....

Yeah, they are at the same level, so it probably doesn't matter. But just to satisfy my own curiosity, is the direction of flow thermostat housing -> heater matrix -> water pump, or is it the other way round??
[edit]looking at the flow diagram in the workshop manual, this would make sense - hot water from the thermostat to the heater, back to the water pump to be recirculated through the block with the cold water from the radiator...
