careful with the disco rims, they dont have the same load rating
Hi. When we bought our 6x6 camper it had 31x10.5x15 tyres. Empty it would use 17lts to 100ks sitting on a steady 100ks. On a trip to Perth 13,600ks with a very heavy load, 17 to 19lts to 100ks depending on the wind. Every trip we went on we got a flat tyre. So fitted 750x16 tyres on some Disco 1 rims. Have now been on 2 trips 1 with a heavy load similar to the load to Perth, 15 to 15.5 to 100ks, so well worth the change. Feels much better to drive, rolls along much nicer & no flat tyres, fingers crossed. All calculations done using a GPS. Paul

What would the load rating of a disco rim be ?
Also what rims did the 6x6 come standard with ?
What rims were the 31x10.5x15 mounted on ?
IMHO i rekon the way D1 rims are made they would handle as much load as a wolf rim as the outer rim section is all but the same the inner plate on both are 8mm pressed steel tho the wolf has a bit more shape pressed into it tho i cant see them being any stronger
depends on which disco rims.....
its one of those dumb ass legislative crap things...
The steel disco 1 rim is probably a better rim than the OEM deefer rim of the same period, but thats not the way its stamped.
From memory the D1 steel is rated for 970 KG and depending on which deefer rim you get they go upto something like 1650KG. Thats before you go getting into the wolf rims and the splits.

I compaired my steel D1 rims to Micks wolf rims from his 130 and apart from them having the deeper curved shape and different holes there was not much difference and they weigh much the same so id say that the 970KG rating for a D1 rim is way under rating it
I'm planning on taking my 6by to Cairns from Kal via Warburton/Alice in August. I hope I can get the same litre/100k. I'll test the consumption on the way to Esperance next weekend
And I whole heartedly agree, Unfortunately rules and regulations disagree.
From what I've been able to work out off of the interporn.
Deefer rims are a minimum of 1100 and goto 1900KG
Disco Rims go between 960KG and 1650KG Most of the evidence suggests that the ally rims are rated higher than the steelies. I've had a look at my 2 spare steel disco rims and cant find the load rating on them. Allies seem to go between 1100 and 1400Kg.
Wolf Rims are rated to 2200 KG
My suggestion. check your axle load limit, if your axle load limit is the same or lower than the heaviest axle on a disco then you can go the disco rims.
I would expect that on a 6x6 The rims would be rated for 1650Kg.

When you say heavy load, what would the all up weight of the vehicle have been? Mine will be close to 6 tonnes when is fuelled and watered
Around 500 litres fuel and 300 of water. Empty it weighs 4980kg. At the moment it has 33x12.50R15 mud terrain tyres. Load rating 2225lbs so hopefully they will do the job. GVM 5500. I'll have to look at what I can trim.
