4BE1 Info
I've recently chatted with my engineer about a possible Isuzu conversion on a 130. He's not very encouraging about a 4BD1 conversion due to the emissions regs changes in 1995 (introduction of ADR70/00) and the fact that the 4BD1 was never in a post 1995 vehicle.
I haven't had a flat "NO", but its not looking too promising.
I'm looking at a few different options. One of them could be to fit the 3.6L 4BE1.
From what I've found out so far, they're basically just a shorter stroke than the 4BD1, and they came out with either an inline pump or a rotary one.
Couple of questions that I haven't found answers to yet:
- Are they still cast iron head like the 4BD1?
- When was they latest date they were fitted to trucks - 1997?
- Were both inline and rotary pump versions available in Aus?
- Does anyone have any emissions related info for them? Or for a truck they were fitted to?
- Any feel for their price and availability (used)? There are a couple for sale at the moment online at around the $4-5K mark from truck engine places, so I'd be guessing $1-3K privately for a reasonable runner.
Alternatively, if anyone in Victoria has actually had a 4BD1/T engineered in a 1995 onwards vehicle I'd love to hear from you as to how/who did it. Feel free to PM me if you don't want the post details here.
