    oil pressure in 4BD1

I wonder if I have a problem with my 4BD1 engine. It runs fine, but appears to take a long time to raise running oil pressure. When cold starting, it will take up to 7-8 seconds to get oil pressure , at idle. Oil pressure is is 4.5 bar, even at idle. When warm , or after a short time, like 15-20 minutes, it will take around 2-3 seconds to raise the oil pressure. Is this a problem? What is the possible cause, and what to do??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mine takes a few seconds to go out when cold, but I'd guess only 3-4.
    Out instantly when warm.

I recall another thread about oil pressure issues but don't recall the details or suggested solutions.

    oil pressure in a 4BD1

I am not sure if I have a problem. My vehicle runs well, maintaining about 4.5 bar in oil pressure. However, I am concerned, because, when cold, it takes 6-8 seconds to reach oil pressure, at idle. When warm , or when it has been turned off for 20-30 minutes, it takes about 3 seconds to raise oil pressure. I have an oil pressure gauge fitted via a T-piece at the oil pressure switch.
DO I have a problem? What is the possible cause, and what is the remedy? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Reason why it takes a bit longer when cold is because the oil is a lot thicker and more viscous and takes a bit longer to get through the galleries and to the sender unit.

    Hey
Mine takes about 7-8 seconds from cold as well. I am doing an oil change this weekend, will let you know if it makes a difference.

Does this mean that the oil gets to all the bearings before it gets to the sender unit. I hate to think of them running dry for a second or two.

No need to worry. Even without pressure there would still be a film of oil on all the bearing shells and journals.
