1989 120"
This one has been around here for a while.
350,000 ks on turbo 4BD1.
Modified L85 (Got sick of pulling it out every 20k), LT230 with winged sump and external oil pump (used to eat tapered bearings), 94 defender/disco brakes and 24 spine front diff, Hi tough axles with Ashcroft CV, 35" tyres, Full air suspension with deflex.
This vehicle works everyday on a large property and has seen many others out over and over.
Vern, like most things I delve into, it is perhaps unique aside of usual cross drilled output gear and the winged sump.
As you are possibly aware, the LT230 has a lot to be desired with oil capacity, heat dissipation and lubrication under heavy low speed work.
The external oil pump is a 12v gear pump (was too much stuffing around to engineer a mechanical drive for my purpose as much as I'd like to) The pump is only run under heavy loads and in low range as they lube fine at highway speeds aside of the heat problem. (The larger winged sump take care of this)
For what its worth I also run synthetic oil as only service it once a year.
