OK, I'll ask it. Why not just leave it on? Maybe a manual off switch for exceptional situations, but otherwise, always on.

as for controlling it, I think I would use a temp controller like on radiator thermo fans in the return pipe from the intercooler.
But from some other info I have been reading, the fan is a waste of time, use a bigger scoop they say. I think for low range work is where the fan comes into it.

I know with a VNT you're going to build more boost and earlier that mine, but I rarely see 10psi in low range, and that wouldn't be sustained for long. The gearing does most of the work, and you're not having to produce huge torque from the engine.
Soft sand with a bit more tyre pressure than ideal will see sustained boost, but that's normally in high range anyway.
I'd be more concerned about making sure the scoop is set up to work well on the highway when you do see sustained high loads/boost.

Edit: BTW - there are pretty explicit scoop size limitations in the Vicroads mods guides - might be worth a read if you haven't already.

thanks Steve, think i'll try it without the fan first and see how it goes. AS for scoop size, I never thought of that, its a custom jobby, same size as a patrol one but 35mm higher (90mm high). I better look into it
