Both the counties and 110 perenties were built at Moorebank, I was there stopping the thieves :D Walked the production line for over 12 months not much else to do.
And yep many of the parts came from the UK in very big boxes that made great cubby houses for the kids. The mil 110 had AFAIK 6 different assembly stations to the civvy ones but basically the same line
They were probably brought in as CKD kits, with quite a lot of local components - the content of the CKD kits depends on what is being supplied locally.Quote:

While the drive train components are interchangeable, the mil 4BD1's had a larger internal oil cooler, different starter motor (sealed), different oil filter set up, higher capacity 12v alternator.
Gearboxes had some upgrades to the center diff (cross pin and thrust washers) and taper roller intermediate shaft bearings instead of thrust washers. Hi/Lo shift lever is also in a different position as is the upgraded vacuum center diff actuator.
Diffs are the same except for RFSV models which had a stronger front housing and upgraded center. RFSV also has slightly lower transfer case gearing (1.113 vs 0.996)
The contract specified 50%local content for 4x4 and 60% for 6x6.
The SRV also copped a rear swaybar and some part numbers indicate 4.7:1 diffs.
All Surveillance versions have a 4pin front diff unlike the lesser spec 2 pin.
Not sure about the source of County rear dic brakes, but Surveillance ones are a combination of Rangy discs and Early '80s 90"front callipers. oh and Pax side fuel tank off the same vehicle.
All rear taillights are COTS Narva generic trailer lights instead of the round'ns.
CKD kit does not include all the parts to build a 12 vehicles.

CKD civilian was a different pick list.
the idea was that opened boxes go into stillages for a build--in practice items would be put on the line or use for shortages and end up in any vehicle being built. gear box and engine placed on the line and paper work would list the serial numbers--not the serial number assigned to a vehcle.
IE the gear box would be supplied for military was 4 speed and most of the time the bell housing wasn't fitted. often the gear box was stripped and rebuilt before going into a vehicle.
The diesel bellhousing and gear linkages is local made and other part picked from other landrovers the transmission cover was for a 5 speed.
I loved unboxing-better than christmas. the crates come in with parts on a pick list in quantities of 12. and loads of parts go into the scrap bins like left hand drive head lights and 24V heaters.
nuts and bolts would come from suppliers like blackwoods-entered into local stores with reworked parts. bulk bins put next to the line for workers to get standard nuts and bolts.

Is there any difference with bodies. E.g. if I bought a hardtop without windows could I put panels out of a defender with windows in at a later stage
there are some differences.
but that should be doable.
All 4x4 body panels should be interchangeable. Rar110 has a civvie wagon body on a GS perentie.Quote:

I'd like windows for the blind spots. I've driven vans without windows and I'm not a fan.
