Choose your year and look for the trucks with the engines you want to know about. I'm still mining through them seeing what I can find.

Thanks Dougal. I had to look in the 1991/2 years NPR400 to find one with my 4BD1T engine.

I then found a few truck variations with the 4BD1T, but interestingly they all had 5 speed MSA5S gearboxes with dual shift.

I assume the dual shift was a splitter. The stated ratios being; 1:1 for 'power' and 0.762:1 for 'economy'.

I found a typo (numerical error) in this one. Who else can spot it?

Yes, the splitter option is all through the 1985 NPR owners/operators manual I have here. It's a pre-cursor to the 6 speed boxes. Grubb has come across a few of them I believe. I've never seen one in real life.
Interestingly I can't find any 85/86 combination of the 4BD1T and MSA-5P either. Just another difference between my JDM engine and the AU versions.

    Gear ratio.

Other interesting bits. 1993 and 1994 they published BSFC curves with the power/torque curves. Looks like 93 is the last year for the 4BD1T in Au. The 4HF1 that replaced it in most of them has the lowest BSFC I've seen in a non turbo diesel.

Several trucks ran the 4BE1 over the 4BD1 (like the 1989 NPR 300). Noticably all crew cab trucks got the E instead of the D. I'm guessing it's solely for noise. Check the 1989 NPR300, 74kw for the 4BE1 crew-cab and 76kw for the 4BD1 single cab.

Laughed my head off my 6bd1 100kw power and 350kw torque from 5.8 litre Thats close to a 300Tdi 2.5 litre
Maybe i should junk the suzi slug for a 300Tdi Dont think so.
Funny i was going to turbo it but i asked the mechanic after he rebuilt it and he advised not to
You can buy a brand new manifold and tubo straight out of Japan to suit for about Aus $1200.
Im selling the truck so it,s not happening anyway

I'm not sure a 300tdi would do rated power for ~20,000 hours though.

You can buy a brand new Kinugawa turbo and genuine Isuzu manifold for about that. How much does your mechanic know about these engines? Hope he didn't do the "5-8psi max, don't want them blowing up" thing.

    Your mechanic is an idiot.

I paid ~$300 new for my manifold from the local Isuzu dealer and just under $300 for a S/H turbo which has since done over 150k of hard km with no problems.

    (btw - the 300tdi only has 82kW).

You would be wrong to call someone you do not know a Idiot ! , This guy bent over backwards to get my truck back on the road to keep me earning a dollar , I do have a lot of respect for the man even if he does not like the turbo idea , He has done fantastic work at not too stupid cost,s and id recommend him to any owner driver thankyou.

I was talking 6bd1 brand new turbo and new manifold for that price and yes i can get the manifold by it self for about $300.00
I was aware of the Tdi kw but 18 kw not a huge difference considering the size factor between the two
Like i said not a concern as the truck is on the market now

Yes it was a Kinugawa setup off fleabay , And no was his answer to the turbo straight out .
He would not entertain the thought to say any more so no talk of 5-8psi or anything
