    4bd1 alternator

    Hi all,
I just received a quote for the alt 160502 120 amp alternator from AEA. I'm thinking this is a pretty good price but is there any other advice out there when it comes to fitting it and wiring it up?
I have seen a lot of posts on here regarding using this alternator and I believe it is the right choice as I'm running 2 x 100 amp hr aux batteries to supply my fridge and camper trailer but out of the current alternator I'm getting sweet .... All.

Also who's the best places to find parts for the 4bd1? currently I have found 4wd parts in Carlisle (formally brit parts) to be pretty good.

If you intend running a Tacho (or already have one), you will need an Alternator with a "Stator Phase sensor", or more usually known as a "W" Terminal.

The non-tacho Alternator will have 2 terminals and a post on the plug, while the Tacho type will have 3 terminals and a post. All is not lost if you have the non-Tacho Alt as an Auto Electrician can wire one in fairly easily, but if you're still at the buying stage it makes sense to get it right first time.

I can't say for certain about the County but the Perentie has a non-tacho Alt with 2 terminals, but the Harness plug has 3 wire terminals in the plug, making it easy and straightforward to swap in a Tacho Alt and fit a Tacho.

I fitted a Tacho to my Perentie, and it cost me $80 to have the "W" Terminal added to the original Alternator.

Thanks 303gunner. My girls a old 85 county so no tacho but have been thinking about wiring one up.
I am still in the buying phase so I will defiantly look out for the third terminal.

I generally go to a local Isuzu dealer for engine parts.

    4bd1 alternator

How much was the AEA 120A alternator? Last time I priced one it was around $700

Adding a W wire is pretty easy DIY task if you want to.

$627 was the quote SteveG and was all inclusive but was pick up in Perth. It has the vac pump but not sure about the w plug going in tomorrow arvo to go hands on and suss it out.
Luckily my father in law is a sparky which makes wiring easy and cheep.

On another note I saw on here a step by step install of a alternator on a 4bd1 but can't seem to find it any more. Any one know where I can find it?

Went in today and picked up the new alternator. Only a 2 plug so no w terminal. The guy who quoted me must of stuffed up as the normal retail is $850 ish. But they did honour the original quote of $627 inc gst.
Now just the task of install and wiring up

Half my problem was finding a replacement pulley, should have been easy but it wasn't. Good luck!

My alternator on my Isuzu, died it had a hitachi, followes the numbers and it cross referenced to a td42 Nissan patrol. The only difference was the pulley, 2 minutes to swap it over. Best part, cost was $250, normally $350. 70amp output and with vaccumm pump.

I bought a genuine Isuzu tacho from the industrial engine dealer in Brisbane, Zenith Engineering. It works off the injection pump via a transducer that screws in the bottom replacing one of the plugs there.
