I personally use Caltex Dello 400 in all my diesel engines because it has the right specs for all of them, but viscosity and grade is more important than brand IMHO.
You could ask Blknight.aus who has been maintaining the RAAF Perenties for some years.
I have spent about 4-5 hours talking to Castrol, Penrite, Gulf Western, Western oil technical departments and Penrite are the only brand that makes an oil that meets the original specs for when the LT95 was made.Quote:

Diesel oils have high detergent levels, even Castrol tech dept said not a good choice, even though its on their spec sheet! Detergents are detrimental to long synchro life as are friction modifiers!

My question is this: Does the Perentie 4x4 (with LT95) have its own oil pump lubing the gearbox?
If the answer is yes, then Landrover Daves suggestion would seem pretty solid for both the GB and TC. If the answer is no, then we're probably back to square one.
Yes, the LT95 in the Perenties has the integral oil pump.

The LT95 is very strong and will probably have a long life on any oil that is not too viscous, however they are expensive to rebuild and spares will only become harder to find in the future.
I am surprised how much store people put in what oils the military uses. Their descisions are made based on considerations like logistics and commonality, with choosing the optimum oil for the specific application a long way down on the list.

Yes I use RX Super in engine, gearbox and transfer of my Isuzu/LT95 equipped vehicles.
Might have to organise a camo convoy for all of us Perentie owners around Sydney!
