    Engine shutoff (EDIC) wiring

Having managed to resurrect the rusted/siezed EDIC actuator on my daughter's county, I'm trying to work out the engine bay wiring.

The actuator has a 6 pin female flat plastic plug on it, but there's nothing on the vehicle to plug it into. Doesn't surprise me as it wasn't working when she bought it, and the previous owner had fitted an old bonnet release cable as a shutoff.

I've got the Isuzu County wiring diagram here, and pretty sure I've identified the "stop solenoid relay" on the front of the firewall as I can faintly read Jedico on it. But the wires from that relay just go back into the loom rather than out to something to plug into the actuator.

For starters, can someone with a factory Isuzu confirm whether the 6 pin plastic plug from the actuator is original?
Assuming it is, where does the corresponding plug/harness head off to?
A photo would be really helpful

Mine has the plastic 6 pin plug, only 5 pins used, in fact the grey one was not connected.
Plug goes into a relay. Red wire goes to fuse box, off the ignition switch.

    hope photos help

Awesome - thanks for the photos. That explains why I couldn't seem to find anything for that connector to plug into.
Obvious now, but the relay that I thought was for the EDIC obviously isn't.

Think that means we don't have the relay

And for the record, I spelt the brand name wrong in my earlier post. Should be Jideco (not Jedico).

I just got a Jedico actuator from an Isuzu truck wrecker for my partly dismantled Perentie. The Perentie came with a relay as pictured above but I ended up getting a sparky to wire up a newer type relay as the terminals were completely different on the Isuzu truck one and I suspected the Perentie relay was faulty anyway.
I'll post up some photo's tomorrow as there is little info anywhere & Rocket Scientists photo is the first photo I've seen of that type relay & I spent hours & hours researching it all with no luck. Sparky only cost $25.00 including the relay - which is not a normal relay btw.

Thanks for the info David. Is the Isuzu truck one you got 12v? I understood they were all 24v.
I used the actuator from a Mazda T3500 truck when I did the conversion on my County, as the T3500 is 12volt.
Sometime later I posted up a circuit for it which Dave_S confirmed worked OK: see here

I was hoping to just be able to keep this one standard, but now thinking I'll rewire to use a standard style relay base and suitable relay (assuming its possible). Easier to maintain in the long term.

As a side note, while I was looking for info on the relays, I found that some Nissan power window motors are Jideco, and look remarkably like the one on the actuator I've just fixed.

    Steve,
Yes the actuator I have is 24Volt, with a 12 Volt Relay. A little slow starting & stopping, maybe a half second delay but plenty of power. Works fine.
I'll post up pics if you go that path.
Second thought I'll post them up if others go that way. Wires are the same as wiring diagram for Isuzu Land Rover except that the stripe colour is the whole wire colour. The bare terminal on the left in the first photo is for ignition power
The Isuzu actuator has a brown & green additional wire which I have ignored, I suspect the green can be wired up to the oil pressure & shut the engine off when no pressure, but I could be wrong.

    Regards,
    David

I've often noticed power window motors at swap meets look very much like the motor on my actuator. Mine's a 24v one off a truck, so I'm wondering if I can swap the motor to a 12v power window motor.

Why not just change to a start run solenoid only need one pos wire either from ign or hidden switch .The start terminal is not needed as there is very little load

    How are they configured?
Since the shutdown lever on the IP is normally spring loaded to the run position, I'm guessing either the start-run solenoid is energised to shutdown, or you need to change the lever to be spring loaded to the stop position, and energise the solenoid to run.
